R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. test marketing in the Twin Cities!

Posted March 19, 2008 in Talk | 147 views | 0 comments

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. (RJR) recently launched a huge test marketing campaign of its Camel Snus product.  Snus is a smokeless tobacco product that comes is small pouches, and is also "spitless."  The Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area is one of ten test markets.  The others are Miami, New York, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco/Oakland and Los Angeles.

RJR is launching a point of sale marketing campaign at conveneince stores, gas stations, etc., that will include a free can of snus with purchase of other tobacco products, free coupons, and additional product displays.  Keep an eye out for this advertising in your community, and let us know if you see this new product in your area.

So, what can we do about it?  Catalyst wants to hear your ideas about how to fight back against big tobacco using our metro area as their test market.  It's time to tell the tobacco industry - especially RJR - that we are not going to be their guinea pigs.

Email holly@bethecatalyst.org with your ideas about how to speak out about this - whether it is organizing an event in your community, reaching out to local newspapers, or doing something at school.  We want to hear your ideas and work with you and let others across the state know that Minnesota is being targeted!
