Shoe Display

Shoe Display

No, we're not going shoe shopping.  An empty pair of shoes can be a powerful symbol of a life lost to tobacco. Whether you want to display 1200 pairs of shoes to represent the 1200 people who die every day in the U.S., or 17 pairs of shoes to represent the 17 people who die every day in Minnesota, this event can make your message even more powerful.  Activists across the country have created shoe displays and added a tag to each shoe with a tobacco fact, a personal story, a tobacco industry quote, or a key message.  What do you want to communicate through your shoe display?  Make it your own and come up with some creative messages for your shoe tags.

Don't forget, when you are scouting out your location, be sure to ask permission and get any permits you might need if you are trying to use city property like a park or town square.

Need shoes?  Contact catalyst at shoes@bethecatalyst.com and we can help you find them.  We suggest contacting your local Salvation Army or Goodwill and asking them if you can borrow shoes for the event.

For more information about other shoe display events around the country, including tips on contacting your local Salvation Army to borrow shoes, visit www.kickbuttsday.org and check out the "Project 1200" event in the "Activities" section.

Also, check out examples of palm cards and shoe tags here.  Feel free to use these as is, add to them, or create your own.
