Catalyst Summer Events.
This
summer, we will not have our usual summit. With our expansion to
healthy eating we're going to focus the summer on a variety of smaller
events.
We'll
keep you updated on what we have planned, but we're working on touring
an organic farm, taking trips behind the scenes at the Farmer's Market,
putting on cooking classes, and all sorts of other fun events.
.New Projects.
Catalyst
has been working hard since the mini-summit to line up our "Summer of
Catalyst." We have all sorts of projects that we are working on. If any
of these sound interesting please let us know, and you can get involved!
Getting Healthy Food into Dakota County Schools
We're
working with four schools across Dakota County and Dakota County Public
Health to improve the food available at those schools. We're working
with Burnsville High, Farmington High, Henry Sibley High, and Randolph
High. We're recruiting students before the end of the year, and will be
training them over the summer to involve them in the wellness policy
meetings that will start again in the next school year.
Getting Healthy Food into Minneapolis Corner Stores
Catalyst
is working with the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP)
to help increase consumption of fruits and vegetables in North and South
Minneapolis. Changes in WIC rules will make fruits and veggies more
available, and we're working to spread the word with young people in
the area. We will be working on youth-produced videos, giant murals,
and screen-printed posters.
Minneapolis Menu Labeling
We
are working with West Metro Medical Society and a variety of other
community organizations to get calorie labeling in fast food and chain
restaurants in Minneapolis. This would make it mandatory to have
calories labeled on the menus and allow people to make more informed
decisions.
