On Tuesday night the Catalyst gang and some Youth Board members went and checked out the new film "Fresh". Not only was it really fun times, but I learned a lot about food, sustainability and what people can do with what nature provides them. The movie really makes you think twice about what you're eating, what's in it and where it comes from. I just thought I'd share my thoughts about the movie with everyone at Catalyst.
As a college student, I know what it's like to not be able to afford to eat organic, fresh foods very often. Some of you are heading off to college soon, so you might soon be in the same boat. Despite not having a lot of money, I do try and eat healthy foods and buy organic when I can. This movie talked about the benefits of eating natural as well the cons of eating certain processed foods. It also talked about how eating local and natural is excellent for your body, your community, the land and the animals.
A woman who own's Co-Op in Virginia mentioned how even spending $10 a week at a Co-Op or natural foods store can make a big difference for the community. When I thought about how much money I spend a month on groceries, I decided I could handle $10, so that's my goal! I'll feel good knowing that the food I'm eating is high quality, good for me and helps countless other people at the same time. Thanks for letting me share guys. If you have any thoughts about this, let me know!
