Quick, Easy, and Delicious

created at: 2009-07-09

I went through the internet and some cookbooks to try and come up with healthy, relatively easy recipes that you can make at home on your own. We all want to eat healthy, but we want healthy to taste good, and to be easy, because really, the reason we chose McDonalds over a home cooked meal is the simplicity. So with these recipes, you have no excuse but to go home, and make yourself something delicious and healthy. The further you scroll down, the harder they get to prepare.

Fruit Smoothie

created at: 2009-07-09    This isn’t so much as a step-by-step recipe, as it is guidelines for making a smoothie. Really a smoothie can be made with anything, but the way I make them, is by using fruit, yogurt, and orange juice.
I like to use frozen fruit for my smoothies. Obviously this isn’t the freshest route, but it’s cheaper and easier than using fresh fruit, and sometimes, cutting corners like this is a good idea. I usually mix a couple kinds of fruit, maybe some sort of berry and mangos. I’ll put in about 2 cups total. So maybe one and a half cups of berry, and a half cup of mangos.
I then add two big spoonfuls of yogurt, so about a ¾’s of a cup if yogurt. I suggest using plain yogurt, you’ll already have added in plenty of flavor with the fruit, and the plain yogurt has less added sugar, so it’s healthier.
Then I’ll poor in another ¼-1/2 of a cup of orange juice. The orange juice definitely adds some flavor, but what it also helps with is the consistency of the smoothie. If you want it to be thicker, add less orange juice, and throw in another spoonful of yogurt, but if you want it to be runnier then add a little more orange juice and keep out some of the yogurt.
Then all you have to do is turn on your blender and let it mix up into a delicious smoothie.

This should feed 2-3 people.

Fruit and Yogurt Parfait

created at: 2009-07-09
The parfait is another “recipe” that is made up of guidelines more so than of actually step by step directions.
This is so simple it’s almost too good to be true. This is as simple as getting yogurt of any flavor, plain, strawberry, blackberry, etc.. and throwing in your favorite fruit, and adding some granola to top it all off.  Making it look good is really the fun part with these, and eating them.
First, you want to choose the fruit you’re using. You can put as many different kinds of fruit in here as you want, but you don’t want to over power the yogurt too much, so put in about half as much fruit as you have yogurt to start out with, and all you have to do is wash the fruit, and throw it into a bowl.
Next take your yogurt, and throw that in the bowl with the fruit, you can mix it up if you want, or leave the fruit at the bottom
Now add the granola. This adds a nice change in texture to the food, not to mention how good granola is for you, being a source for vitamins and fiber, and for your taste buds

Peanut Butter and Banana Wraps

created at: 2009-07-09
    What you’ll need:
        1 Banana
1 Tortilla Shell (wheat is always the healthier option!)
        Peanut Better
    What you can add:
Honey (and of course anything else you think would work)

Simply take your tortilla, and lightly spread peanut butter over it. Remember, tortilla’s are thin, you don't want to overpower it with peanut butter
Now cut the banana into thin slices, and place it over the peanut butter, then (if you want to) drizzle honey over it all, once again don’t put too much on here, it will overpower the rest and turn into a drippy mess.
Now roll up the tortilla, fold over the two ends so nothing gets out, and enjoy!

Tomato Salsa
    What you’ll need:
        3 Tomatoes
        1 Green Bell Pepper
        8 Green Onions
         3 Cloves or Garlic
        2 Tablespoons Cilantro
        1 Tablespoon Jalapeño Chile
2-3 Tablespoons Lime Juice, and ½ teaspoon of salt.

Chop up all of these ingredients, it is really up to you how big or small all of the ingredients, it just depends on what you prefer in you salsa. After you chop them all up, you then should mix up all of the ingredients in a bowl, and you will end up with about 3 1/2 cups of salsa. You can save this in the refrigerator, or you can cut the recipe in half and have a smaller amount of food for just you and one other person.
